El-Cid

WTF DWSKG ZOMG BBQ

Posted by El-Cid Nov. 22, 2008 @ 9:52 AM EST

Hey NG,

Just have some cool news I'd like to share. I've just been hired as an entry level animator at Dreamworks Animation SKG. FIFEN!

I wanted to share this with the NG community, because it's here that helped get me impassioned with entertainment through animation and continues to be a place where artists can unabashedly express themselves. (COCK JOKES!) So yes, thanks to senior Fulp.

For anyone else interested in the world of animation for film, check out

http://www-viz.tamu.edu

www.animationmentor.com.

Both schools are great although the first is more technically prone (rigging/shading/rendering) and the latter concentrates purely on animation as an art form(acting/performance). If you have any more q's just shoot me a message.

Also, if you'd like to check out my demo reel for shits 'n giggles, here's a copy:
http://www-viz.tamu.edu/students/rodri go/BlueSkyDemoReelPrev.mov

hasta for now.

¡FELICIDADES NORBAK! (Pronounce the name backwards in Spanish) XD

And sorry about my previous "faux pas"; I didn't mean to screw up :(

Also, those hands are mighty hard to draw; nice job! And the animation is up to your regular standards. I would have never suspected you were into MAMBO XD

And while on the subject, ¿Fábrica de sueños carnal? (Dreamworks bro?), GOOD gig!

Dec. 1, 2008 | 8:19 PM El-Cid responds:

Yes, thanks sir. I'm pretty stoked about the whole ordeal.

No sweat on about the artist mix-up. At the end of the day, the gods or art will hopefully sort out the genuine from the counterfeits.

Full speed to Los Angeles. Here's hoping.

LOL

DreamWorks makes good animations only occasionally.

But I did enjoy a few films.

Let us know which movies you've done.

NG is the place to be to get your portfolio started.

Dec. 20, 2008 | 9:31 PM JakBaronKing says:

Have you ever heard of the movie 'Polar Express'? Well, your animating in that demo reel is 10x better than the animating in that movie.

Jan. 28, 2009 | 12:29 PM Doubleraz says:

Awesome demo reel there!

Wow, the drawings you had in there were fantastic. I'd like to be an animator for a living, I'm currently in high school and I have knowledge about animation, my concern is the fact that I'm not a good artist. How did you get good at art?

Jan. 28, 2009 | 3:22 PM El-Cid responds:

Well, practice goes a long long way. I used to just draw all the time, but it's also nice to have some guidance. I took a couple of figure drawing classes, which were really great. Also, being a cartoon fan, I followed some of John K's tutorials: http://www.animationarchive.org/2 006/05/meta-100000-animation-draw ing-course.html . It's basic stuff, but really handy.

Fortunately, this day in age, you don't have to be a particularly good draftsman to be an animator. In other words, even if you're drawings kind of suck, as long as you're good with performance and timing you can still get work.

He was Rodrigo Diaz de Leon

Feb. 13, 2009 | 9:21 PM El-Cid responds:

Well yes, we do just share the first name, but the coincidences don't end there. I once rammed the Tizona into a Muslim dude's stomach, and I scored with Sophia Loren.
